Choose the perfect tablecloth for your kitchen

The tablecloth is a fundamental element for the dining room: not only because of its undoubted practical utility of protecting the table, but also because it represents a real piece of furniture, capable of changing the mood of the room thanks to the endless possible combinations of patterns, colors and materials.

So here are some tips for choosing the perfect tablecloth!

The right tablecloth according to the table

The first thing to consider when choosing the perfect tablecloth is the table it will cover.
The size of the table and its shape are already an indicator that should not be overlooked: the shape of the table should be matched by the shape of the tablecloth, which should be large enough to cover the entire surface and have side drops of fabric, equal on all sides and about 20-30 cm long each, not too long so as not to get in the way of guests' movements.

Choose the right fabric

The materials from which the tablecloth is made are, of course, a very important aspect: it is essential to always use quality tablecloths, but the choice of fabric depends very much on the occasion in which it is used.
An informal dinner, whether with family or friends, calls for a cotton tablecloth, while an elegant dinner party naturally requires a tablecloth made of fine fabrics such as linen, silk, lace or buckram. In addition, tablecloths made from cool fabrics such as hemp, linen or other natural fibers are to be favored in summer.

Colors and patterns

Playing with tablecloth colors and patterns is a lot of fun, but you need to have a few things in mind: the first is to consider the type of dining room décor, so that you can choose hues that fit well with it.
In addition, the tablecloth should go well with the plates and glasses used to set the table, and it can match the type of dinner, the mood of the day or the season you are in.
On some special occasions some particular colors are a must, such as red and gold on Christmas and New Year's Eve or orange and purple on Halloween.
In order not to make a mistake, it is good to remember that the white tablecloth is always a great classic and that on big occasions it is even possible to put two tablecloths on top of each other, of different sizes and in complementary colors.

Tablecloth always perfectly clean and ironed

It is obviously important that the tablecloth is always clean and ironed, especially if there are guests at home, unfortunately, due to time or poor skills in ironing, this is not always possible.

Some solutions come to our aid:

  • Stonewashed fabrics: these are fabrics whose processing creates an intended worn effect, so they only need to be washed, but not ironed;
  • Placemats: small, inexpensive and easily washed, placemats are perfect for quick lunches or breakfasts or for when we have a nice table that we also want to show off during meals;
  • Table Runners: useful both as a simple decoration and during meals, a runner is an ideal and elegant solution to protect the table while still leaving the possibility to show its specialness.

Napkins to match the tablecloth

Usually the corresponding set of napkins can be purchased along with the tablecloth, but if you want to be daring with a touch of originality, it is possible to set the table with napkins of another type, always remembering to use colors and materials that go well with those of the tablecloth.
Never use paper napkins, and be careful that the napkins are also perfectly clean and ironed.
